Pole to Pole Expedition Partnership
Shackleton will be the official performance apparel partner of the world's first Pole to Pole electric car expedition starting in March 2023.
Exploration has taken many forms since the early races to the South Pole of Sir Ernest Shackleton. With expeditions innovating in their attempts to explore Antarctica and beyond, the consistent theme has been achieving that which has not been done before. Shackleton is therefore very proud to become the official performance apparel partner of the Pole to Pole expedition which will undertake a challenge as pioneering in its method as it is arduous.
In a new world first, British adventurer and Guinness World Record holder Chris Ramsey, will attempt to become the first person to ever travel from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in an electric vehicle, driving an all-electric Nissan Ariya. Pole to Pole will see Ramsey traverse 17,000 miles across 14 countries in North, Central and South America before the final push to the South Pole in Antarctica. The expedition will raise awareness of the important role that electric vehicles can play in combating climate change as well as the broader impacts of climate change on the planet – particularly in the vital polar regions. Temperatures on the expedition are predicted to range from -30⁰C to 30⁰C, highlighting the need for robust, high-performance apparel.

As part of the new partnership, we will be providing the Pole to Pole team with our latest technical range, including innovations derived from other polar expeditions. Chris Ramsey, Founder of Pole to Pole Expedition, said: “Given the range of extreme temperatures and weather conditions that we are sure to encounter, as well as the unpredictable nature of such ambitious journeys, it is essential that we are equipped with the right clothing. Thanks to the technical and engineering innovations behind Shackleton’s clothing, our expedition team will remain safe and comfortable in some of the most inhospitable conditions on earth. We are thrilled to have Shackleton on board – not least because it is named after the leading figure in exploration and someone I have admired greatly from a young age! My ambition is to follow in his footsteps, building upon his legacy with a new type of sustainable exploration.
“Pole to Pole is all about raising awareness of the impact we are having on the planet and the need to be more conscious of the choices we make. We are particularly proud to be working alongside Shackleton given their long-time commitment to sustainable and environmental causes – including habitat protection in the Antarctic.”
Following the recent launch of the inaugural Shackleton Medal for the Protection of the Polar Regions, the challenge aligns perfectly with the Shackleton values of pushing beyond what has previously been achieved along with the recognition and protection of the environments that these expeditions take place.
“In 1908, Sir Ernest Shackleton was the first person in history to put a car onto the Antarctic continent. If he were alive today, he wouldn’t be exploring the poles, he’d be protecting them,” said CEO and Co-Founder of Shackleton, Martin Brooks. “Shackleton is proud to support this daring expedition and the vitally important cause it represents.”
As a team devoted to exploration and challenging oneself, we wish Chris all the best in his preparations and look forward to supporting and following the challenge in due course.
There will be continued updates around the preparation and challenge itself across the Shackleton social channels and in the Shackleton Journal.
