Mission: To complete an unsupported 5-day cross-glacier challenge and develop the skills and experience necessary for a significant polar expedition.
The Iceland Glacier Challenge is a training expedition designed specifically to develop all the skills necessary for survival in extreme environments, preparing for and completing a significant polar expedition. You will traverse Iceland's second-largest glacier, the mighty Langjökull under the expert guidance of Louis Rudd MBE. This level two Shackleton Challenge involves a five-day traverse covering 75km of majestic landscape and icy terrain, experiencing true isolation and developing your skills in pulk hauling, navigation and camping out on the snow and ice in sub zero temperatures.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
Expect steady skiing or walking over undulating terrain for several hours in low temperatures, with a light backpack or pulk. May include short-duration overnight field camps. Participants should have a good level of fitness and be able to conduct moderate outdoor activities in a cold-weather environment for several consecutive days. Minimal experience required as specialist skills will be taught and practised.

MEET YOUR GUIDES
We work with some of the very best polar guides, ensuring the highest possible safety, tuition and expertise on every expedition. Every Shackleton Challenge has at least two highly-qualified guides, led by Director of Expeditions Louis Rudd, and managed by Expedition Manager, Wendy Searle – between them they have accumulated thousands of miles on foot in polar regions. You will have several interactions with Wendy and Louis prior to departure, they will advise on pre-expedition training, kit recommendation and what to expect when on a Shackleton Challenge.
