FROM MARINE NOVICE TO THE WORLD'S TOUGHEST ROW - SOLO
In December 2024, Ananya Prasad will row solo from La Gomera in Tenerife to Antigua, with no previous marine experience. She will row 3,000 miles across the mid-Atlantic as part of the annual World’s Toughest Row (formerly the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge).
This incredible feat will see her face extreme elements, sleep deprivation, and waves up to 20 feet high, as she strives to become the first woman of colour to row solo across an ocean - all in support of her chosen charities.
The World’s Toughest Row is aptly named, challenging amateur rowers of all ages and nationalities to complete this gruelling journey every December. Participants are self-sufficient throughout the crossing, relying on equipment like a watermaker, navigational tools, satellite phones, and dehydrated rations, as well as their physical and mental endurance to conquer the unforgiving ocean.
Ananya will undertake this challenge in a purpose-built ocean rowing boat, designed to withstand the marine environment’s harsh conditions. While ocean rowing comes with inherent risks, the race organizers provide 24/7 satellite support and have two safety yachts on standby in case of emergencies. Ananya will also complete rigorous safety training to ensure she’s prepared for the journey.
Ananya will be equipped for the journey in a specifically made marine jacket from Shackleton and an adapted paid of the CHALLENGER Expedition Salopettes.
