Extreme Weather, Which Jacket?

Extreme Weather, Which Jacket?

Extreme weather is our expertise - this is always our favourite time of year. Whilst the Antarctic season has closed, our friends in the US suffered last week’s bombogenesis and found themselves neck-deep in snow with many cities still under minus twenty. In Europe, the Alps are enjoying a daily dusting and we’re running out of names for storms in the Nordics.

Here in the UK, blizzards are few but the season of intense, storm-force winds, torrential rain and wild temperature change is certainly here.

As our fellow Shackleton devotee Sir Ranulph Fiennes once said, "there’s no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing."

With turbulent conditions ahead, we spoke to Head of Product Performance, Gord Betenia about which jacket best suits what environment.

THE VOSTOK STORM PARKA

Shackleton Vostok Storm Parka

“The Vostok is a lightly-insulated, extended three-season synthetic-parka that suits the needs of those more concerned about heavy rain than snow”

The ultimate wet winter jacket, the Vostok Storm Parka is designed to withstand the heaviest downpours and strongest gales. The shell is 20,000 h/h credentials, and is filled with PrimaloftⓇ Gold insulation resulting a fully water and windproof parka.

THE HAAKON 3-IN-1 PARKA

Shackleton Haakon 3-in-1 Parka With Ross Gilet

“The Haakon suits the needs of those wanting an upper-thigh length, fully-featured, mid-warmth down-parka that’s versatile and can be adapted to colder conditions with the Ross Down Gilet inside.”

Perfect for all conditions, the Haakon is versatile by nature. With a multitude of storage options and Adaptive Layering compatible, this jacket instills confidence. Designed to be fully waterproof and windproof this jacket can be used as a mid-warmth jacket or as the feature for arctic conditions.

THE LOCKROY ALL-CONDITIONS PARKA

Shackleton Lockroy All Conditions Parka

“The lower-thigh length and 800 down fill makes the Lockroy the ideal parka for wearing in the coldest conditions, graded down to -20°C.”

An effortless fusion between style and high performance. A testament to Shackleton's Antarctic DNA with it’s recycled waterproof 20,000 h/h fabric and RDS-certified goose down for the ultimate high performance. It’s extended length and baffles elevate this to the ideal jacket for cold and wet weather while maintaining a sleek and stylish presence.

Mid-Weight Down Jackets

Shackleton Ronne Mid-Weight Down Jacket

"Three-season down jackets that suit the needs of those that are more active. Layer over it. Layer under it. Move and explore in it. A staff favourite."

The Rothera and Ronne are three-season down jackets that suit the needs of those that are more active. With a breathability rating of 3,600 g/m2/24hr, it is ideal for light exercise. A great layering piece, these jackets can be worn as an over-layer or an under-layer with its adaptive layering feature.
