DESCRIPTION

Introducing the CHALLENGER Expedition Pulk Jacket, the ultimate waterproof hard shell jacket designed in collaboration with record-breaking polar explorer, Louis Rudd MBE. It is the result of years of tireless research, development, and testing in some of the harshest environments on the planet, from Norway and Iceland to multiple successful crossings of Antarctica and five South Pole completions.

Crafted with a combination of high-performance materials, the CHALLENGER Expedition Pulk Jacket is engineered to withstand even the most extreme conditions. Designed with expeditions in mind, it features 100% recycled fabric panels for additional durability in high contact areas for specific use with a pulk harness or backpack. The combination of underarm zip vents and breathable shell fabric ensure a constant temperature is maintained and protect against overheating when in high activity use. The 20,000mm H/H rated waterproof shell with fully adjustable hood, cuffs and aquaguard zippers provides complete protection against the elements.

The articulated sleeves, placket pocket and four external pockets are all devised to improve ease of movement and access to essentials when on the move.

Each feature has been meticulously selected and tested by Louis to deliver an optimal balance between functionality, lightweight performance and durability that allows the wearer to focus on the Challenge.

Combine with the CHALLENGER Expedition Salopettes, to utilise the compatible placket pocket and equip yourself For The Challenge.

PLACKET POCKET

An innovative design that allows direct access to the internal pocket of the CHALLENGER Expedition Salopettes for essentials that require more warmth without the need to open central zip.

/02

UNDERARM ZIP VENTS

Designed to compliment the exceptional breathability of the hard shell and allow additional heat release when in high activity use.

REFLECTIVE DETAILING

Performance detailing with additional visibility in low light conditions provides particular benefit when on expedition with others.

A garment’s warmth depends on individual tolerance, layering, and conditions like wind or humidity, allowing flexibility beyond its listed temperature range.

Waterproof rating is measured in Hydrostatic Head (H/H). Hydrostatic head is a measurement that indicates the water-resistance level of a fabric or material. It is defined as the height of a column of water, measured in millimeters, that a fabric can withstand before water begins to penetrate through. The higher the hydrostatic head value, the more water-resistant the material is.

Breathability measurement refers to a fabric's ability to allow moisture vapor to pass through, indicating how comfortable it will be during wear. The RET (Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer) value is commonly used; lower RET values (0-6) indicate very high breathability, while higher values (above 20) mean poor breathability.

The second way that breathability can be measured is moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR), given in milligrams per hour (mg/h), showing how much moisture can pass through in a set time frame. Higher MVTR values indicate better breathability, ensuring comfort by reducing moisture buildup.
