WHY I TAKE IT

LEVISON WOOD

Writer, photographer, explorer and so on to a maximum of 15 words.

"I love the X it always keeps me dry when exploring the amazon, it packs down to a 10th of its size and is just phenomenal."

DESCRIPTION

The Haakon Tactical Down Parka is the embodiment of the Shackleton mission and represents the pinnacle of technical innovation with an unparalleled sensory experience. The Shackleton design team have built an expedition-grade parka that simultaneously protects you in the field and provides a refined feel that instills confidence from the moment you put it on.

Warm, windproof, breathable and filled with RDS-certified 850 fill power, Shackleton’s Antarctic expertise is clearly evident in the Haakon’s DNA. Engineered from 100% recycled 3-layer fabric, it offers an impressive 20,000mm (H/H) waterproofing that is luxuriously soft to the touch but engineered to withstand prolonged wet snow, wind and rain. The shell fabric’s mechanical stretch increases freedom of movement, which ensures comfort when active and on the move.

Under the shell, insulation comes from certified responsibly sourced 850-fill power European goose down that delivers exceptional warmth, to keep you feeling invincible when the elements battering the outer shell. The luxe details extend into further features including the micro fleece collar and hand-warming pockets.

Versatility is central to the Haakon’s design with an adjustable storm snorkel hood that features a visor reinforced with a moldable wire stiffener to provide a custom shape. Adjustable waist and velcro cuffs allow for quick personal optimisation to the relevant environment and personal preference. The Haakon’s high-specification feature set includes a breadth of storage options delivered by seven external pockets. The sleeve patch pocket, two micro fleece lined hand-warming pockets and two large drop pockets offer practicality whilst contributing to a bold and functional geometric aesthetic, whilst a single placket pocket and two external zip pockets provide safety to your valuables when on the move.

TWO WAY ADJUSTABLE HOOD

Hood is fully adjustable and the front and centre back with bungee cord and toggles.

/02

HIDDEN WAIST ADJUSTER

Waist adjuster is hidden under the flap of the front pockets so that it can be cinched in at the waist without opening the jacket and losing body heat.

/03

ERGONOMIC CUFFS & FASTENING

Sculpted cuffs protect the knuckles from rain, wind and snow, while velcro fastening allows for easy adjustment.

A garment’s warmth depends on individual tolerance, layering, and conditions like wind or humidity, allowing flexibility beyond its listed temperature range.

Waterproof rating is measured in Hydrostatic Head (H/H). Hydrostatic head is a measurement that indicates the water-resistance level of a fabric or material. It is defined as the height of a column of water, measured in millimeters, that a fabric can withstand before water begins to penetrate through. The higher the hydrostatic head value, the more water-resistant the material is.

Breathability measurement refers to a fabric's ability to allow moisture vapor to pass through, indicating how comfortable it will be during wear. The RET (Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer) value is commonly used; lower RET values (0-6) indicate very high breathability, while higher values (above 20) mean poor breathability.

The second way that breathability can be measured is moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR), given in milligrams per hour (mg/h), showing how much moisture can pass through in a set time frame. Higher MVTR values indicate better breathability, ensuring comfort by reducing moisture buildup.
