THE EXPEDITION

Back in June 2022 we announced that we were the official kit providers for the Pole to Pole EV Expedition, a world-first attempt to drive from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in an all-electric vehicle.

The Pole To Pole team, comprised of husband and wife explorers, Chris and Julie Ramsey, have successfully completed the Artic leg of their 17,000 mile journey. In the first of its kind expedition in an electric vehicle, the capabilities of both the car and the Ramsey's have been pushed to their limits.

"The Arctic is an unforgiving and treacherous place, and our journey was fraught with unexpected challenges and obstacles. We faced numerous setbacks and delays, from equipment malfunctions to unpredictable weather conditions. Yet, with each hurdle, we learned valuable lessons and adapted our approach, always keeping our end goal in mind."

"This experience has been an immense learning opportunity for us. It’s essential to recognise and accept when things don’t go as planned so that we can regroup, learn, and make the necessary changes to create a successful solution. Innovation is rarely a smooth journey, but we’re more determined than ever to continue pushing the boundaries of sustainable travel and exploring renewable energy solutions."

THE EXPEDITION ROUTE

“Our mission is to show that electric vehicles can tackle the harshest of environments – from the bitter cold of the poles to the hot and humid jungles of South America, and illustrate that they can meet the demands of drivers around the world, and encourage the switch to zero-emissions transport."

CHRIS RAMSEY

THE KIT

To accomplish the gruelling challenge and withstand the combination of some of the coldest and warmest climates on earth, Chris and Julie will be utilising a complete Shackleton layering system. Merino layers next to the skin including the Nelson will provide comfort and insulation through a broad range of conditions and activity levels. Meanwhile the Dudley Merino Polo Shirt will provide moisture-wicking thermoregulation when in desert and tropical environments. Down insulation in the form of the Rothera will function as a protective midlayer in harsher climates and versatile outerwear in changeable conditions. When in the coldest environments and on low activity days the Haakon Tactical Parka will provide a snow-storm-proof outershell and superior interior comfort. The highly windproof Pulk Jacket is specifically designed to protect from the elements in the polar regions where temperatures can routinely reach -30°C.

As a part of Shackleton’s partnership with McKinsey Perks, Shackleton is offering an exclusive benefit of 20% off all Shackleton products and access to Shackleton Challenges Expedition Experiences with a 10% reduction.
