WHY I TAKE IT

LEVISON WOOD

Writer, photographer, explorer and so on to a maximum of 15 words.

"I love the X it always keeps me dry when exploring the amazon, it packs down to a 10th of its size and is just phenomenal."

DESCRIPTION

Born from Shackleton’s polar heritage and built for the next frontier of exploration, the Fortuna Ski Bibpants deliver expedition-grade performance for the modern skier.

Tested in seven countries over two years of development by Team GB Snowsports coaches, the Fortuna Bib pants are engineered for extremes - equally at home skinning between Alpine huts, skiing fresh turns in waist deep powder, or carving the final run of the day.

The shell pants are constructed from a PFAS-free hydrophilic membrane with a 20,000mm waterproof rating and 20,000g/m²/24h breathability, they offer complete protection and comfort in high-output, cold-weather conditions.

Designed for versatility, the mesh zip-off bib allows seamless transition between ski touring and piste days, while reinforced scuff panels, thigh vents and two zipped leg pockets ensure durability and functionality in challenging terrain. Finished with YKK AquaGuard® zippers, the Fortuna Bibpants combine robust weatherproofing with refined detail for enduring performance.

Named after Fortuna Bay, the legendary landfall where Sir Ernest Shackleton completed his crossing of South Georgia, the Bibpants honour a legacy of endurance — tested by Shackleton’s modern expedition team, proven in Polar conditions, and certified by the UK Ministry of Defence.

Waterproof rating is measured in Hydrostatic Head (H/H). Hydrostatic head is a measurement that indicates the water-resistance level of a fabric or material. It is defined as the height of a column of water, measured in millimeters, that a fabric can withstand before water begins to penetrate through. The higher the hydrostatic head value, the more water-resistant the material is.

Breathability measurement refers to a fabric's ability to allow moisture vapor to pass through, indicating how comfortable it will be during wear. The RET (Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer) value is commonly used; lower RET values (0-6) indicate very high breathability, while higher values (above 20) mean poor breathability.

The second way that breathability can be measured is moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR), given in milligrams per hour (mg/h), showing how much moisture can pass through in a set time frame. Higher MVTR values indicate better breathability, ensuring comfort by reducing moisture buildup.

A garment’s warmth depends on individual tolerance, layering, and conditions like wind or humidity, allowing flexibility beyond its listed temperature range.
