MARK AGNEW

KAYAKING THE NORTHWEST PASSAGE

Join us at the Shackleton Flagship store at 214 Piccadilly to hear all about Mark Agnew's world-first expedition.

Mark Agnew and his three teammates made history when they paddled the length of the Arctic's Northwest Passage. They were the first team to kayak the entire Arctic route, and the first team to do it under human power, with no motors or sails, in a single summer.

The Arctic Cowboys, as the team were called, kayaked for 103 days, facing storms, polar bears, fatigue and shifting sea ice. The predicted expedition completion date was at the end of the summer, however due to a host of challenges including getting trapped in the ice, the expedition continued into the grips of winter, where the team persevered, finally ending their journey in October.

ANANYA PRASAD

ATLANTIC ODDYSEY

In December 2024, Ananya Prasad will row 3000 miles solo from La Gomera to Antigua, she joined us to launch her world-first expedition.

In December 2024 Ananya Prasad will be embarking on an epic 3000 mile solo row across the Atlantic Ocean, as part of the World's Toughest Row. If successful, she will be the first woman of colour to ever solo row an ocean.

With zero nautical experience prior to signing up, Ananya's drive to push herself on a new challenge in the outdoors has evolved into a journey of representation. Born in India and raised in the UK, Ananya has always found there was a glaring lack of diversity in adventure sport. In undertaking this challenge she hopes to inspire more people of colour and women into adventure sport and rowing.

Ananya hopes that one day, women of colour participating in endurance events isn’t out of the ordinary, rather the norm.

POLE TO POLE

EV EXPEDITION FROM MAGNETIC NORTH TO SOUTH POLE

British adventurers, Chris and Julie Ramsey, have become the first people to drive from a magnetic north location to the South Pole and they have completed the journey in an all-electric vehicle. They came to the Shackleton store to share how they fared, from start to finish.

As announced in June 2022, Shackleton served as the official kit provider for the Pole to Pole EV Expedition, a pioneering attempt to drive from the magnetic North Pole to the South Pole in an electric vehicle.

The Pole To Pole team, comprised of husband and wife explorers, Chris and Julie Ramsey, have successfully completed the Artic leg of their 17,000 mile journey. In the first of its kind expedition in an electric vehicle, the capabilities of both the car and the Ramsey's have been pushed to their limits.

"The Arctic is an unforgiving and treacherous place, and our journey was fraught with unexpected challenges and obstacles. We faced numerous setbacks and delays, from equipment malfunctions to unpredictable weather conditions. Yet, with each hurdle, we learned valuable lessons and adapted our approach, always keeping our end goal in mind."

Every day, Rudd and his team faced the relentless challenges of extreme cold, perilous terrain and the world’s toughest expedition conditions. The journey took them on a route that crossed deep snow, sand dunes and even the frozen Pangong Lake, winding their way ever higher to an altitude above Everest Base Camp.
