WHY I TAKE IT

LEVISON WOOD

Writer, photographer, explorer and so on to a maximum of 15 words.

"I love the X it always keeps me dry when exploring the amazon, it packs down to a 10th of its size and is just phenomenal."

DESCRIPTION

The second iteration of our waterproof hardshell jacket designed specifically for active photographers in collaboration with Leica.
The brief was to perform impeccably both in the field and back home – a lecture at the RGS, perhaps, then dinner at the Dorchester. Since Hurley’s images cemented the Shackleton legend in the public consciousness, we’d only ever use his name on a jacket we’re convinced he’d choose for himself. This second iteration hits that mark even more soundly than its sold-out predecessor.
On a long shoot, you need to move freely with all equipment catered for. You need it all to stay dry, from outside and within. The fully sealed seams and Aquaguard zippers help attain an exemplary waterproof rating, while comfort is handled by a top breathability score and the fabric’s mechanical stretch. Reinforced panels bring extra strength in the right places and there are dedicated pockets for everything, the outer ones microfleece-lined. The insulated battery pocket keeps batteries warm, the lens and glove pockets have hooks and we’ve even added a branded lens cloth that retracts automatically. There’s a stowaway hood. We could go on.
As a standalone Hurley works best at around 5 to 15 degrees, so we’ve left ample room for layering.

  • BREATHABILITY- Fabric has extremely high breathability rating of 5.93 RET, letting water vapour escape while keeping warmth in.

  • 3-LAYER FABRIC- Shell consists of a three layer fabric allowing for both waterproofing and breathability.

  • WATERPROOF- The 3-layer fabric, aquaguard zips and fully sealed seams makes the jacket completely windproof and waterproof.
  • Mechanical stretch fabric - extra comfort
  • Reinforced panels with additional high abrasion fabric on strategic areas (shoulders, upper back, elbow, lower back/seat)
  • Hood packs into the collar
  • Battery pocket with Primaloft Gold Insulation Aerogel to stop battery packs getting too cold in low temps
  • 2 x Microfleece lined handwarmer pockets
  • Zipped welt pocket for storage of lens cloth
  • Branded lense cloth attached to a detattchable auto retract device
  • Lense and Glove pockets with envelope closure and additional volume for bulkier items
  • Phone pocket with Aquaguard zipper and Zip garage
  • Memory card case pocket with envelope closure
  • 1 x Internal zipped pocket
  • 3 x Internal mesh pockets

A garment’s warmth depends on individual tolerance, layering, and conditions like wind or humidity, allowing flexibility beyond its listed temperature range.

Waterproof rating is measured in Hydrostatic Head (H/H). Hydrostatic head is a measurement that indicates the water-resistance level of a fabric or material. It is defined as the height of a column of water, measured in millimeters, that a fabric can withstand before water begins to penetrate through. The higher the hydrostatic head value, the more water-resistant the material is.

Breathability measurement refers to a fabric's ability to allow moisture vapor to pass through, indicating how comfortable it will be during wear. The RET (Resistance to Evaporative Heat Transfer) value is commonly used; lower RET values (0-6) indicate very high breathability, while higher values (above 20) mean poor breathability.

The second way that breathability can be measured is moisture vapour transmission rate (MVTR), given in milligrams per hour (mg/h), showing how much moisture can pass through in a set time frame. Higher MVTR values indicate better breathability, ensuring comfort by reducing moisture buildup.
