The entire 2021 range is made from 100% recycled fabrics, with zero compromise to expedition grade performance. All our jackets and parkas are European made, RDS-compliant, fur-free and fully tested.

This coming November, Louis will support Martin Hewitt on his ‘Adaptive Antarctica’ Grand Slam expedition (see below), during which he will be putting equipment from the ‘Louis Rudd Edition’ range to the ultimate test before it becomes available for you to buy next year. Shackleton’s Director of Expeditions Louis Rudd MBE is a record-breaking polar adventurer, former Royal Marine Commando and SAS soldier. As the first, and only person to have traversed Antarctica twice using human power alone, Louis knows more than anyone about polar performance kit and has learned the hard way that the tiniest piece of bad design can turn into a major problem on expedition. Using all his hard-won experience, Louis is leading the development of a range of professional-level cold-weather apparel that’s designed specifically for elite polar and high-altitude explorers on extreme journeys.

As his windswept gravestone in South Georgia testifies, 5th January 1922 was the day when Ernest Shackleton ‘entered life eternal.’ One hundred years later, with the Boss known, loved and admired throughout the world, hundreds of thousands will mark this moment and celebrate his extraordinary life at his gravestone and around the world.

Our own homage will include a Centenary collection, heritage partnership and a unique and enduring commemoration that we are excited to announce in October.

Female physiology performs and adapts differently in cold weather. Our mission is to design, develop, test and launch a from-scratch, female-specific expedition range that offers women the unique protection and range of comfort their bodies need in the world’s worst conditions.

A RANGE OF PERFORMANCE WATERPROOFS THAT YOU REALLY WANT TO WEAR, NOT JUST NEED

Protection against rain and wind is for many of us more important than thermal insulation for most of the year. The last two British winters have been wet and stormy but not especially cold, which typically leaves us with a reluctant choice. It’s either a thin nylon rain shell that’s dry and breathable (but looks and feels like childrenswear), or it’s a grown-up jacket that’s heavy and hot.

Another world-first. Shackleton co-founder Ian Holdcroft will join an international crew of world-class oarsmen in their attempt to break six world records. The Shackleton Mission will involve an 800 mile row across the treacherous Southern Ocean in the wake of Shackleton’s James Caird from Antarctica to South Georgia. The team hopes to arrive around 5th January 2022, exactly 100 years after the death of Ernest Shackleton on that same remote island in the Southern Ocean.

THE SHACKLETON MISSION

A world-first attempt: injured army veteran Martin Hewitt will aim to become the first disabled explorer in history to trek 700 miles from the Antarctic coast to the South Pole. He will follow that with an ascent of Mount Vinson in his attempt to complete the world’s first Adaptive Explorer’s Grand Slam. Shackleton is proud to support and equip Martin’s unique challenge.
