FRANK HURLEY

PHOTOGRAPHER'S

FIELD JACKET

INSPIRED BY THE EARLY PIONEERS

OF ADVENTURE PHOTOGRAPHY

Developed in collaboration with Leica Camera and expedition photographer Levison Wood, the Frank Hurley is a smart, waterproof hardshell field jacket designed for both off-grid and in-city use. With a refined utility aesthetic, it’s engineered to enable the wearer to focus on the mission in hand and stay out on location to get the result required.

The jacket’s design and fit afford a wide range of movement and offer carefully considered features to assist the in-field photographer. The wide array of pockets include an insulated battery pocket to prolong battery life in the cold. Voluminous cargo pockets have double folds for added security and protection. There’s even a branded lens-cloth on a retracting lanyard in its own compartment.

For this technical jacket, our second collaboration with Leica, much of the design and testing process was focused on waterproofing. All seams on the soft-touch and whisper-quiet technical shell fabric are fully sealed. Aquaguard zippers keep pockets dry. A pack-away hood extends far enough to shoot in the rain with good protection. Reinforced, abrasion-proof panels bring extra strength in the right places - elbows, seat and shoulders to accommodate backpacks and harnesses.

Frank Hurley was a pioneer of early film and photography and was chosen by Ernest Shackleton to document the Endurance expedition. An inspirational Hurley quote is stitched into the lining. We are quite certain he would approve.

OUR INSPIRATION:

FRANK HURLEY 1885-1962

DOCUMENTARY FILM MAKER AND EXPEDITION PHOTOGRAPHER

Photography has played a crucial role in the long and storied history of exploration. Just like today, if a major achievement wasn’t captured on camera, it hadn’t happened. Sir Ernest Shackleton knew this better than most and hired Frank Hurley on his legendary ‘Endurance’ expedition. Hurley was an early pioneer of early location film-making and his work and technical ingenuity set the standard by which all adventure photography was judged throughout the last century.

" You must regard your camera as an artist does his brush, your camera is but a piece of mechanical apparatus. You are its intellect."

- Frank Hurley
